Plate production line is located at Vahterus Oy in Kalanti. Line produces PSHE 5 exchanger plates and welded pairs out of strip. Pyynikki Engineering integrated the line's hydraulic press, eccentric press, industrial robot and auxiliary equipment in to one set. Pyynikki Engineering was also in charge of safety of the line and robot programming. Quality is assured through machine vision and process monitoring.
This portal robot serves a production line with 8 other machines. Portal's automation was renewed during summer shutdown. Portal robot's Siemens Sinumerik 810 control was upgraded to Sinumerik 840D sl. Also new electrical cabinets were designed. Program cycles were converted to be compatible with new control system.
Welding line is used to weld heat exchanger plates into pairs at Vahterus Oy. This project was carried out in collaboration with Ionix Oy and Vahterus Oy. With this project the quality assurance was the key. Pyynikki implemented a system to monitor welding parameters as well as a taylor made machine vision system to visually inspect the quality.
Multipick portal robots are used at Saarioinen Oy's dispatch center in Valkeakoski. System comprises of four portal robots. All four robots where modernized. Robots' electrical cabinet where replaced with new ones including Sinumerik 840D sl controls, servo drives and switch gear. Servo motors and field devices where kept. Pyynikki Engineering delivered the project in whole. Installation was done by local maintanance crew. Portal robots were modernized one by one and during that time other robots where out of production only for short periods of time. Project targets were met regarding availability improvements, maintainability and stoppage times.

Lathe used to machine cast iron motor chassis' sized up to 0,6 MW. Lathe has main spindle table, drilling tools, two main axis, tool magazine and pallet changer. All of the lathe's automation was renewed and moderized. Modernization was commissioned during 5 week of summer shutdown. Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl with safety integrated was selected as the control system. Auxiliary functions and safety system is controlled by Simatic S7-300 F series programmable logic.
Laser cutting line was a new machine, which was designed and produced for Vahterus Oy. Line cuts heat exchanger plates for Vahterus's heat exchangers. Plates are cut from moulded strip using 1 kW IPG fiber laser. Machine has 5 parallel strip moulders for different types of products, which the laser serves. The machine has 3 axis portal with gantry for the laser and 2 axis servo controlled palletizers for each mouder line. Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl technology was selected as the control system. CE acceptance process was also carried out for the machine. The risk assesment processes was done by Pyynikki Engineering with Vahterus.
Pyynikki Engineering produced automation architecture, programming and commissioning to a new laser cutting line. This cutting line is used to automatically cut material testing pieces from sheet at a steel mill. Production control is handled by factory production system. Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl was selected as control system and Linux/Qt PC program handles communication to higher level system.

Two carriage Waldrich-siegen manual lathe was modernized to a CNC lathe. Siemens Sinumerik 802D sl was selected as a control system. This 20 ton and 18 meter turn length horizontal lathe was partly modernized. Some parts were still in good working order were used in the modernized system. These parts include electrical cabinets, main spindle drive and motor and measuring rods.

The program cycles of the two channel control system was converted to new control. Old servomotors were replaced with Siemens Simotics 1FK7 series products.

Old decomissioned manual drilling machine was rebuilt. New control system was designed from scratch. Siemens Sinumerik 840D sl was selected as a control system. This machine is used for drilling paper machine suction rolls. The machine has 44 spinde drives each with 8 drills.
